From Beneath the Wood Sanctuary
A Mudcontrol Slab fundraiser for Sasha Bennett’s birthday has raised nearly £5,000. However the appeal is ongoing and you can still gift or donate a slab at https://globalvegancrowdfunder.org/mud-control-slabs/ The land at Beneath the Wood is heavy clay and it rains a lot in Wales! We only have a small amount of land and with so many pigs we could do with four times the acreage. Therefore we have to find ways to make it work and mudcontrol is the key. Huge thanks to everyone who has gifted slabs so far. You really are making a huge difference to the pigs and for us to be able to look after them.
Brave supporter and volunteer Abi Foster raised over £5,000 for Beneath the Wood when she had her ear tagged with a livestock tag in solidarity for all the farmed animals that have to go through this painful process. The funds raised through sponsoring her helped towards buying a 24×12 foot wooden stable block, stock fencing/posts and Mudcontrol Slabs so we could create another much-needed piggy area. Thanks to all those who donated to Abi’s fundraiser.
Pigoneer mugs are now available to all pigoneers. Pigoneer mugs require a minimum donation of £12.50 (£10 for the mug and £2.50 postage and packing) and all proceeds go towards feeding and caring for the 91 pigs. You can purchase a mug here https://donorbox.org/pigoneer-mug-i-m-a-proud-pigoneer
Beneath the Wood would like to wish all our supporters a Happy New Year. Let’s hope 2021 unfolds a lot better than 2020 did and we finally see life return to some sort of normality. A new year also sees a new website … and an exciting new ambassador for the sanctuary too in Canadian/American actress Tara Strong (pictured). Tara is an award-winning voice-over animation artist who is also a voice for the animals as well. Check out her website at www.tarastrong.com. The last 12 months has been a major challenge for all of us, but here at Beneath the Wood we have achieved so much in what has been a very difficult year, relocating the Pembrokeshire pigs to our own site just before the first lockdown and then going a long way towards erecting a winter barn for them. We are nearly there … but not quite. Thanks to all those who contributed to our fundraising towards the £35,000 needed for the barn (and extra concreting and fencing etc). We are still £10,000 short but the barn is fast taking shape.
Special thanks to all those dedicated volunteers and helpers who have done so much to help Sasha in 2020, in particular Rob, Maura, Julie and Eddi … Gina Bates at Global Vegan Crowdfunding … The Edna Smylie Memorial Fund, the Rose Animal Trust, the Beryl Evetts & Robert Luff Animal Welfare Trust and the Ostacchini Family Charity Trust … Viva!, the vegan animal-rights charity founded and run by Juliet Gellatley … Helen Sinclair and Martin Gomez at Friends of the Animals on the Isle of Wight .. Viva La Vegan, the best place for your vegan clothing and accessories … Vegan Actions Wales … The Cranky Vegan … Volunteer Abi Foster, who had her head shaved to raise £1,000 and Kevin Doherty for his sponsored 21-mile litter-pick from Dorchester to Yeovil.
