VOLUNTEERS

Beneath the Wood have been blessed with some wonderful volunteers in the past few years.

Rob ‘Jester’ Hayden spent the best part of 2020 residing in a caravan at the sanctuary and as well as helping on a daily basis feeding and caring for the pigs and other animals, he has also done all manner of essential building work, not least the construction of two pergolas over the new outside kitchen and dining area which has been named Jester’s Courtyard in his honour.

Eddi kept Rob company for over a month and regulars Julie and Maura have also gone above the call of duty to help while talented musician Abi Foster, who had her head shaved and then underwent a painful ear tagging to raise some essential funds, also came and sang to the pigs! We are always looking for volunteers … whether for a few hours, a day, a weekend, a week or even longer! The work can be heavy and tiring … but it is very satisfying. And you will get a warm welcome from Sasha, the other volunteers and, of course, all the sanctuary’s animals.
